ACV Rose Toner | DIY

I am a confessed lover off all things skincare; from diet and exercise to lotions and potions I'm fascinated by how our largest organ (our skin) is affected. I've always enjoyed the process of washing my face, especially after a day in London or when I've worn makeup, and after opening up my pores with warm water I feel it's important to keep my skincare simple, gentle, and nourishing.

I grew up making my own toners, only realising you can buy them in shops years later. After giving a fair few a try I've always come back to using my own DIY toner. My skin always looks and feels it's best and most healthy when I'm using my apple cider vinegar (ACV) toner, which:

  • is 100% natural and organic
  • balances the skin's PH
  • evens skin tone
  • removes toxins
  • firms skin
  • allows skin to breathe normally
  • unblocks pores
  • prevents acne, pimples, blemishes, and skin infections (because it is antibacterial, anti-fungal, and antiviral)
  • reduces age spots
  • slows the process of wrinkles
  • costs hardly anything to make yourself at home

So you're probably wondering how to make this wonder-toner... well, it's pretty damn simple! All you need is organic apple cider vinegar and filtered water. That's really all. You make a 50/50 mix in a glass or BPA-free container et voila!

WARNING: family and loved ones may say you smell like a chippy. But fear not, that's why adding your own scents will not only add skincare benefits but will mask the smell of vinegar, too. I love to use rose water because it's very gentle, calms, soothes, and moisturises the skin, and smells great!

You can get creative with what you add to your ACV base (lavender, geranium, lemongrass, juniper, vetiver... or whatever your favourite essential oil). Mostly I like to keep it sweet and simple, but have fun playing around with scents and mix your own potions depending on your skin woes.

If you have any questions about what essential oils would be best for you skin-type, ask me in the comments below and let's start sharing ideas!
